Belimo – leading in fire protection
since 1978
Fires represent the greatest potential threat to people and tangible assets in buildings. Efficient fire protection saves lives in times of danger, helps minimise property damage and secures the continued operation of companies.
Belimo fire protection products can be found in the following building applications:
Fires can be devastating to the economy and to people's lives. On the one hand, fires can cause enormous economic damage through the destruction of buildings and equipment. This can lead to loss of production, loss of jobs and other economic problems.
Fires can also cause tragic loss of life. In addition to physical injuries such as burns or smoke inhalation, fires can cause emotional and psychological trauma. This can be a heavy emotional burden, especially for people who lose their homes and possessions to fire.
In today's civilised world, people spend more than 90% of their time inside buildings and expect to be kept safe while they are there.
Fire zone formation:
Motorised fire dampers provide the best protection against the spread of fire and smoke through ducts by creating fire zones. Belimo safety actuators for fire dampers close automatically in case of fire and keep the dampers closed.
Smoke control for escape and rescue routes:
The use of powered smoke control systems with motorised smoke control dampers also saves lives and offers additional advantages. Escape and rescue routes are kept clear of smoke, flashover is delayed or prevented, and extinguishing and rescue operations are facilitated. In case of fire, Belimo smoke control damper actuators move the smoke control dampers into a safe position and hold them there reliably.
Example of a motorised fire damper
In case of fire in the following situations, the spring energy of the fire damper actuator will move them to the safety position (closed):
• The operating temperature in the duct or in the environment is exceeded
• The smoke detector trips
• Supply voltage failure
• The ventilation system switches off
• Fire alarm system triggered
The Safety Position Lock™ function keeps the motorised fire dampers in the safety position in case of fire.
Customers benefit from the following advantages:
• Maximum safety by reliably closing and holding the damper in the safety position
• Scenario control through intelligent controls and sensor integration
• Protects infrastructure in the event of a power failure by automatically closing fire dampers using the spring energy of the actuator
• Central monitoring and automated function tests
• Reduced maintenance and operating costs
• The state of the art must be taken into account in addition to the technical regulations (e.g. standards).
• In Europe, fire dampers are manufactured according to the product standard EN 15650, with fire resistance testing pursuant to EN 1366-2 and classified according to EN 13501-3.
• Reliably holds the fire damper in the safety position in case of fire
• Patented technical solution
• Integrated as standard
• Cannot be reset
• Function-protected supply line
• LED status display
• Check the damper function on site using the test button
• Tested according to ISO 10294-4
(1) Function-protected supply line
(2) Duct temperature fuse
(3) Ambient temperature fuse
(4) Test button
LED display lights up if:
• Supply voltage is present
• Thermal fuse OK
• Test button not pressed

(2) Consecutive number
Each BAT component containing a fuse is marked with a test protocol number for traceability in accordance with EN 10204:2004.
Example of a motorised smoke control damper
The smoke control actuators drive the smoke control damper into the defined position (open or closed) in case of fire. The Safety Position Lock™ function reliably holds the smoke control damper in the safety position.
The smoke control damper actuators have been developed to comply with the specific requirements of European standards.
All actuators are checked in detail before delivery.
Current consumption is reduced by low power consumption in rest position.
In Europe, smoke control dampers are manufactured and certified according to the European Product Standard EN 12101-8.
The test standard EN 1366-10 specifies the tests required meet the EN 13501-4 classification for AA, MA and HOT applications.
Country-specific regulations must also be taken into account.
The Belimo smoke control actuators facilitate the prescribed inspections, which must be carried out and logged periodically.
Our goal is to effectively keep escape and emergency routes free of smoke in case of fire.
For maximum safety and reliability in case of fire, the use of a mechanical smoke control system is advisable, depending on the type of building and how it is used.
As a rule, the owner and/or the operator are responsible for the proper functioning of the smoke control system throughout the entire building life cycle.
Pressure differential systems (PDS) are becoming increasingly important for the safety of modern buildings. With our pressure differential system test environment (safety lab) we will impart our knowledge of smoke control in vertical and horizontal escape and rescue routes.
As part of the system-based preventative fire protection, Belimo has invested in a modern, in-house safety lab which has been specially designed for testing and training purposes at Belimo.
The following scenarios will be demonstrated for you:
In addition to tours, the safety lab is also available for training and demonstration purposes. Please contact your regional sales office.
The FM6 is the first actuator with spring-return that is, among other things, also mounted on fire dampers. The damper is always closed (fail-safe) by the installed tension spring. The shaft clamp connection enables direct mounting on the damper shaft.
The FS series is the first compact spring-return actuator for fire dampers to be launched in Belimo orange. For the first time, two microswitches have been incorporated to provide feedback on the damper position. The actuator (damper) can be adjusted manually using a hand crank.
Launch of the SBS safety and operating system, which has a modular design and consists of a BS30 closing mechanism, a BAL70 mechanical tripping device and a BMF spring-return actuator. Form-fit steel gear for even more safety.
Market launch of the BF as the first fire damper actuator with a hard-wired thermoelectric tripping device (BAE), form-fit steel gear and current reduction to reduce energy consumption in the end position (damper open).
The first actuator (BR) for the control of smoke control dampers was launched on the market shortly after the major fire at Düsseldorf Airport (Germany). This fire was the beginning of discussions regarding smoke control for escape and rescue routes. 2-wire technology is being used here for the first time to safely control the actuators (dampers).
Launch of the compact BLF fire damper actuator. It enables the economical motorisation of small to mid-sized fire dampers. The actuator is equipped with a short-circuit-proof thermoelectric tripping device (BAE).
The BE marks the launch of a powerful and robust smoke control damper actuator for the motorisation of large smoke control dampers to the market. This actuator also has current reduction to reduce energy consumption in the end position (damper open/closed).
Expansion of the product range for smoke control damper actuators to include a compact and powerful actuator. The BLE actuator enables economical and efficient smoke extraction solutions for large rooms with smoke control dampers distributed throughout the entire area.
Market launch of the very compact and powerful BFL/BFN fire damper actuators with patented damper locking "Safety Position Lock™". The adapted torque gradation enables an economical motorisation of small to mid-sized fire dampers.
Market launch of the very compact and powerful BEE/BEN smoke control damper actuators with patented damper locking "Safety Position Lock™". The adapted torque gradation enables an economical motorisation of small to mid-sized smoke control dampers.
